To provide a safe environment for the children

The underlying goal for the organisation has been to secure boarding school for the children which it currently serves. Thanks to a number of donor’s, we have managed to secure a spacious house as private residence and it also functions as our offices. We continue to request donations for the rental of the property, which happens to be close to a public clinic and we have ambitions to open an Internet Cafe which will service the local community and generate passive income for Touching Acts.

To provide a safe environment for the children

The underlying goal for the organisation has been to secure boarding school for the children which it currently serves. Thanks to OR Tambo District Municipality, this has been realized. The municipality assisted by paying tuition and boarding fees for all children for the full calendar year. All children were admitted at St Patrick’s Primary School.

To ensure that children get a quality education

St Patrick’s Primary school is one of the good performing schools in the OR Tambo District. It was a great breakthrough for Touching Acts to be able to secure a place for all it’s children. The Department of Education was of great assistance in this process as late applications were done for all children. The academic performance for all children was not satisfactory in the first term, mainly because of change of environment, also the fact that the standard at St Patrick’s is very high to the one they were used to, as a result only two of them managed to pass on the first term.

Touching Acts then approached the department of education for assistance in this regard. In trying to help, the department of education appointed an individual to go to St Patrick’s School to assist children on their academic work and not only the Touching Acts beneficiaries were receiving assistance but all children who are struggling academically. This has resulted positively as there has been an improvement throughout the 2019 school year. Following is a summary of their academic performance for the entire 2019 school year.

To provide basic needs (clothes, food, and other necessities) for children

Provision for basic needs is an imperative objective that our Organization needs to fulfill. As the organization is still new and not yet financially stable we could not meet all the needs for the children. We have managed to prioritize and purchase uniform, toiletries, school bags and some clothes. This objective has been accomplished through the support from sponsors and mostly three women who support the organization constantly on a monthly basis. Our supporters have shown a great support toward the organization in ensuring that this objective is achieved, including a lady who donated 20 blankest and 20 pair of shoes for the children. Pep store has donated 20 school bags for our children at the beginning of this year.

To conduct counselling sessions for children

Touching Acts was able to host two camps this year all these camps were funded by Arm in Arm in Africa. The camps were conducted during school holidays in order to provide a safe and healthy environment for the children, the camps remain a temporal solution to the permanent out of school housing challenge the children experience, the ultimate solution is to get a home for the children around Mthatha.

Counselling sessions, Spiritual deliverance sessions, psychological and educational activities, were conducted which resulted in the transformation of the children. This was confirmed by the teachers and caregivers at school by seeing a behavioral change in children after they were from both camps.  The camps have also been a great success due partnerships that were formed with the following organizations:

  • Cindi (children in distress)
  • Department of education
  • Department of social development.

We have managed to source donations worth over R350 000.00 which have enabled us to sustain the boarding home, provide food for the children and to pay allowances to our wonderful care-givers.
