Health scare leads to all 20 Touching Acts beneficiaries taken for a medical check-up on 14 February 2020 at the Civic Centre Community Clinic.
The month of February shook the new home after an eight-year-old female beneficiary suffered from Boils. Our responsive caregivers were quick to rush her to the nearest KSD Pharmacy where she was put on antibiotic treatment. We are glad to announce that she has completed the treatment and is now cured.
The worst was yet come!
We woke up to a shock on Thursday (14 February) as we noticed one of our young boys, 8 years of age, urinating blood. We had to rush him to see a doctor who ran a few tests on the boy. He was diagnosed with a water-borne disease called “Bilharzia”. Subsequently, he is currently on a treatment which is set to run until mid-March.
Upon hearing that the boy is under the care of an NPO, Dr Madangatye offered his services for free. We are thankful to him and his staff for this kind of gesture.
As a precaution, we saw fit to take all children from the boarding home for a medical check-up on 14 February at Civic Center Community Clinic, which just under 5 kilometres away from the boarding home. All children were cleared from Bilharzia but 5 were treated for a minor throat inflammation. They were given antibiotics.
Health practitioners from the Civic Centre Community Clinic gave us advice on how we can reduce the risk of having the children contaminating diseases and germs. This advice was given to both the staff and the children. Such advice was that children must wear their shoes all the time; sinks, bathrooms and toilets to be disinfected regularly. Girls over the age of 5 years were advice on the HPV vaccine.
The children were accompanied by their matron and 1 caregiver to the clinic.
